Celebrity - What Is Celebrity? Definition? What is celebrity? How do you define celebrity? Neil Gabler, once of movie critic fame, wrote a good paper on this while at the Norman Lear Institute. He says that celebrity and fame are different. One can be famous for doing something but not a celebrity. For example one can invent the water slide and be famous but that does not buy celebrity. By contrast a person can make a sex tape and achieve celebrity. That is Neil's idea. The social media age has produced a lot of celebrities and at a record rate. But my question to you is this: what is a celebrity?
